Seamus McWatters of Colonie Central High School recently demonstrated his technical skills for state leaders during the annual BOCES Expo at the New York State Legislative Office Building on April 20.

McWatters, a student in the Automotive Collision Technology program at Capital Region BOCES, joined peers from across the region in showcasing how Career and Technical Education programs prepare students for high-demand careers. The event, held in “The Well” of the Legislative Office Building in Albany, provides lawmakers with a firsthand look at the hands-on training taking place in BOCES classrooms.

During the expo, McWatters helped demonstrate industry-level techniques, including refinishing pedal cars and creating custom flaked plates featuring lowrider-style graphics and candy paint finishes—projects that highlighted the advanced skills students develop through the Automotive Collision Technology program.

“This was a great opportunity to meet people and tell them how fantastic a program Automotive Collision is,” McWatters said.

He was joined at the event by Automotive Collision Technology teacher Dylan Bastian and Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education leadership, including Albany Campus Principal Dr. Joseph Slichko, along with other regional BOCES representatives.
