The South Colonie Board of Education has appointed Michael Morrissey as interim dean of students at Sand Creek Middle School, effective Oct. 1, 2026. 

Morrissey has been part of the South Colonie community since 2019, when he joined Sand Creek Middle School as a seventh grade mathematics teacher. During the 2025-26 school year, he also served as an administrative intern at Sand Creek, working closely with students, families and staff while gaining experience in the day-to-day operations of the school.

In that role, Morrissey served as acting assistant principal for grades 5-8 during administrative absences. He worked with students and families on discipline matters, investigations and re-entry plans, and supported safety procedures and emergency response. He also assisted with staff hiring, scheduling and student support efforts.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the students, families and staff at Sand Creek in this new role,” Morrissey said. “I’ve built a lot of great relationships during my time here, and I’m excited to continue that work.”

In addition to his work at Sand Creek, Morrissey has taught seventh grade through Capital Region BOCES’ Cooperative Virtual Learning Academy and has taught summer school in South Colonie. He has also served as head coach of the Colonie High School varsity baseball team since 2021.

“Michael has a strong ability to build relationships with students and earn their trust,” Superintendent Dr. David Perry said. “We have seen that in his work as a teacher, as well as through his years of coaching. He understands the importance of meeting students where they are, supporting them and helping them grow. That experience will be an asset to Sand Creek in this role.” 

Morrissey holds a master’s degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the University at Albany and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with an education certificate from Siena College. He completed the Leadership Academy Certificate program at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts this summer and earned his New York State Professional Administrator and Initial School Building Leader certifications in August.

Morrissey will begin his new role on Oct. 1.
