South Colonie Students Compete at 2026 KidWind Worlds in Madison

South Colonie Central School District students recently traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take part in the 2026 KidWind Worlds competition, an international renewable energy and engineering challenge that brings together student teams from across the globe.
Throughout the multi-day event, students designed, tested, and refined wind turbine models while collaborating and learning alongside peers from across the United States and countries including Taiwan, Thailand, and Estonia. The competition emphasizes innovation, teamwork, and real-world problem solving in the field of sustainable energy.
Sand Creek Middle School students represented South Colonie with enthusiasm, creativity, and strong teamwork. Participating teams included:
- The Waddling Penguins: Douglass Lougee, Kevin Lin, Abram Malik, and Mrinmoy Dash
- Beaming Godzillas: Nicholas Robilotti and Caden Edick
- Swimming Hotdogs: RJ Romand and Avi Kimball
The Swimming Hotdogs team of sixth grade students RJ Romand and Avi Kimball earned a World KidWind Middle School Wind Champion Award during the competition.

At the high school level, the team known as The Flying Pickles included 9th grade students Jameson Hynes, Kara Stolicky, Lewis White, and Joseph Brunetto.
“Opportunities like KidWind give students a chance to step beyond the classroom and apply what they’ve learned in meaningful, real-world ways,” said a South Colonie STEM teacher. Jim Brown “Watching them collaborate with peers from around the world, solve problems under pressure, and continuously improve their designs is exactly what hands-on learning is all about. We are incredibly proud of how they represented South Colonie Central School District.”
