The spotlight shines brightly on Colonie Central High School as the school’s spring production of Mary Poppins has received four nominations for the 2025 High School Musical Theatre Awards at Proctors!

The nominations include:

• Outstanding Supporting Performer: Mason Calarco as Michael Banks
• Outstanding Lead Performer: Cameron Froehlich as Bert
• Outstanding Choreography Execution: Colonie Central High School – Mary Poppins
• Outstanding Musical Tier A: Colonie Central High School – Mary Poppins

With these honors, Colonie Central High School has once again secured a performance slot at the awards ceremony, set to take place on Saturday, May 10 at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. This marks the fourth consecutive year the school has been nominated for Outstanding Musical, following last year’s incredible win in Best Musical Tier B.

This year, Colonie moves up to Tier A, and is competing with some of the larger schools in the area. Out of the 21 participating schools across the region, Colonie is one of just nine chosen to perform at the awards show — a true testament to the dedication, talent, and heart of the students and staff behind Mary Poppins.

“This is a huge honor for our program,” said Sue Vatalaro, Line 'n Cue Advisor, Co-Producer/Director . “To see our students recognized at this level is incredibly rewarding. We are especially excited for our nomination for Outstanding Choreography.  Christine Meglino is a remarkable choreographer and to have her efforts recognized along with our talented dancers is very important to all of us in our program.  These nominations represent months of hard work, collaboration, and creativity from everyone involved.”

From flying kites and nannies to chimney-sweeping dance numbers, Mary Poppins brought the magic to life on the Colonie stage this spring — and now that magic continues to soar all the way to Proctors.
