Celebrating Inclusivity and Innovation: Students Participate in Student Symposium at Proctors

On Wednesday, April 2, students from Colonie joined peers from several area schools at Proctors Theatre for the culminating symposium of the Capital Region BOCES discussion series. Throughout the school year, students participated in three engaging sessions focused on key topics such as diversity, technology, and social media—connecting with one another to explore these issues in meaningful ways. The symposium served as the grand finale, bringing students together to showcase their learning, ideas, and creativity.
A highlight of the event was a student-created table display, which highlighted the positive steps Colonie has taken this year to foster inclusivity within our school community. The display reflected our ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive culture and provided a platform for sharing strategies and solutions with other schools across the region. Students also had the opportunity to explore other schools' displays, gaining inspiration and practical ideas to bring back to their own school environment.
The event featured several powerful speakers who shared personal stories and insights, encouraging students to continue their efforts to build inclusive and supportive communities. The symposium was a meaningful reminder of the impact of collaboration, innovation, and the shared responsibility we all have in creating a more equitable future.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to these vital conversations and look forward to the continued impact of their leadership in the years ahead.
