Serving with heart: CCHS seniors participate in Senior Day of Service

Nearly 80 students from Colonie Central High School (CCHS) recently participated in a meaningful Senior Day of Service by visiting the Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement Program (SHIP). SHIP is dedicated to providing transitional housing for homeless individuals, addressing a vital need in the community.
Students from the classes of Mrs. Caldara,Ms. Meglino, and Ms. Lupe had the opportunity to tour the SHIP facility, interact with residents, and engage in various activities designed to uplift and connect with the individuals SHIP serves.
“It was a unique and eye-opening experience for our students,” said Caldara. “They not only learned about the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness but also had the chance to contribute in small but meaningful ways.”
During the visit, students wrote inspirational messages to encourage residents, played chess games with some, and engaged in thoughtful conversations to learn more about the resident's experiences.
"This visit is a perfect example of how our students are putting the principles of the Civic Seal of Readiness into action," said Melissa Judge, CCHS associate principal. "Through their participation, they not only demonstrated empathy and compassion but also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of giving back and being active members of their community. It’s inspiring to see their commitment to making a positive impact."
