Colonie Launches Wolfie’s Cup: A new opportunity for students to build skills

Colonie Central High School recently celebrated the grand opening of Wolfie’s Cup, an initiative designed to help self-contained students develop social, and workplace skills. Building on the success of similar programs like the Coffee Cart at Lisha Kill and the Kindness Café at Sand Creek, Wolfie’s Cup marks an exciting new chapter for our high school students.
"This initiative offers a unique opportunity for our students to build essential skills in a real-world setting," said Brian Scalzo, special education supervisor for grades 5-12. "The success of the Coffee Cart and Kindness Café programs has been significant, and we’re thrilled to bring this experience to the high school. These programs not only teach workplace skills but also foster confidence and independence that will benefit students both in, and out of the classroom.”
Wolfie’s Cup gives students hands-on experience serving coffee, tea, and other beverages to teachers and staff while building communication, teamwork, and customer service skills. Led by self-contained teacher Aimee Bain and her students, the program prepares students for future workplace settings.
The initiative was a collaborative effort, with Colonie’s graphics club, under the guidance of Justin DeFazzio, designing the program’s logo and aprons. The high school administration also helped secure a central location to ensure the program's success.
The grand opening brought together staff, students, and community members to celebrate this milestone and show support for Wolfie’s Cup, added Scalzo. “We’re excited to see how Wolfie’s Cup continues to grow and empower our students to succeed in the future.”
