Registration now open for South Colonie’s free Universal Pre-K Program

The South Colonie Central School District is thrilled to announce that registration for its free Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program is now open. This high-quality program is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning while supporting young students’ academic and social-emotional growth, ensuring they are well-prepared for kindergarten and beyond.
Program Details for Fall 2025
Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, South Colonie will offer:
- Five 5-hour programs
- Four 2.5-hour programs
Each classroom will accommodate up to 18 students, with a district-wide capacity of 162 seats. Student placements will be determined through a random lottery held in May. Students not selected will be placed on a waiting list, and openings will be filled as they arise.
Important Considerations
- Students may not attend their home school due to lottery placement and program availability, although every effort will be made to match students to their home school.
- Transportation and wrap-around care are not provided.
How to Apply
Registration is now open and required for lottery eligibility. Families are encouraged to apply early to secure their spot. Please note that the UPK program is subject to budget approval each May.
South Colonie’s UPK program offers a fantastic opportunity for young learners to thrive in a supportive and engaging environment. Don’t miss this chance to give your child a strong foundation for their educational journey!
